Join The Literacy Connection for our first-ever Poetry and Literacy Festival! This daylong event in Elgin, IL will feature workshop learning and guest speakers, as well as an open mic and Poetry Slam. All are invited to be a part of this celebration of National Poetry Month while raising important funds for our adult literacy work in the community. 

Our morning poetry workshop will be led by Chasity Gunn. Chasity Gunn is the Poet Laureate Emeritus of Elgin, IL. She is a 2023 Watering Hole alumna, a 2022 Wild Seeds Fellow, and a 2021 Academy of American Poet Laureate Fellow. She serves as a Poetry Teaching Resident with Prison+Neighborhood Arts Project. Gunn is also a Poet-in-Residence with the Chicago Poetry Center. She has forthcoming publications in Killens Review and African American Review.

10:00 AM - Poetry Workshop led by Chasity Gunn (at Elgin Community College) 

2:00 PM - Guest Speaker Diego Báez (at Elgin Community College) 

7:00 PM - Open Mic & Poetry Slam (at Elgin Art Showcase)
