Guest Speaker, Writer Diego Báez - Literacy Connection Poetry Festival

Join The Literacy Connection for our first-ever Poetry and Literacy Festival! This daylong event in Elgin, IL will feature workshop learning and guest speakers, as well as an open mic and Poetry Slam. All are invited to be a part of this celebration of National Poetry Month while raising important funds for our adult literacy work in the community.
Our afternoon guest speaker will feature Diego Báez. Diego Báez is a writer, educator, and abolitionist. He is the author of Yaguareté White, a finalist for the Chicago Review of Books Award and winner of the Chicago Reader's Best New Poetry Collection of 2024. He is the recipient of fellowships from the National Book Critics Circle, the Surge Institute, and the Poetry Foundation's Incubator for Community Engaged Poets. He lives in Chicago and teaches at the City Colleges.
Festival Schedule: 10:00 AM - Poetry Workshop led by Chasity Gunn (at Elgin Community College)
2:00 PM - Guest Speaker Diego Báez (at Elgin Community College)
7:00 PM - Open Mic & Poetry Slam (at Elgin Art Showcase)
